ACGC Artists once again had a very successful run at the 2015 MSHSL Visual Arts Competition at New London-Spicer High School with everyone scoring high enough on their artworks to earn Excellent and Superior Awards. Malorie Macik, Cheyenne Schmidt, Micayla Hobson, Allison Smith, Cynthia Shubert, and Samantha Tait all had artworks in the competition. While the judges were scoring their pieces, we got to visit and tour artist studios in New London and see what life is like as a working artist in that community. Thank you to those artists for opening up their studio spaces to students, thank you to New London-Spicer for hosting and organizing such a fun day, and congratulations to all the awesome artists who competed! Proud of you!

This project presented to ACGC 8th graders the unique opportunity to get a chance to collaborate with students from other schools that are located in very different locations in the great state of Minnesota. Folwell, a school in Minneapolis, visited us today! We contrasted our locations, populations, schedules and routines, but one thing remained certain, we can all compare our interest in the arts and our common goal for this project: documenting and creating an awareness of the spaces and places that we occupy day in and out. The rooms where we spend our time, the hallways we walk through, the places we collaborate, grow, and learn in - these are important parts of our everyday lives! It is important and worthwhile to capture them in an image and present them to the world. Every picture tells a story, let’s tell ours!
