Apple Colored Pencil Shading
Drawing an object that has volume, texture, and tonal variety is easy when you know how to do it! And what better object to learn how to apply these things on than an apple?
Apples have a smooth surface, a sphere-like shape usually, and lots of different flecks of color on the outer flesh if you look closely enough to see it. We focused on red varieties of apples for this assignment and observed how there isn't just red on those apples. You can find colors ranging from yellow to orange to burgundy on them as well.
5th graders watched a demonstration and listened to me explain how I was contouring the pencil strokes I was laying on the paper in the various colors needed to make the apple look realistic. Leaving areas blank for new color and also an understanding of overlapping colors to blend them in were discussed.
