Silhoettes (Artist Study: Grace Graupe Pillard)
The students studied the work of silhouette artist Grace Graupe Pillard and then created painted silhouettes in the spirit of her style. Students needed to find a silhouette of a form that is easily "readable" when viewed only with the reliance of its outline. They then needed to find images of things that relate to the bigger silhouette and fill up the interior in a way that is balanced and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
A demonstration was given on how to use shading and blending techniques with paint so that students could accurately portray realistic looking objects.
