ACGC Artists had a great run at the Meeker County Fair art competition! Courtney Hartmann took away two 1st place awards and one 2nd place award in her category, Laela Werner earned a 1st place in her category, and Sonya Vela left with a 2nd place in her category. Great job everyone!
ACGC Artists once again had a very successful run at the 2015 MSHSL Visual Arts Competition at New London-Spicer High School with everyone scoring high enough on their artworks to earn Excellent and Superior Awards. Malorie Macik, Cheyenne Schmidt, Micayla Hobson, Allison Smith, Cynthia Shubert, and Samantha Tait all had artworks in the competition. While the judges were scoring their pieces, we got to visit and tour artist studios in New London and see what life is like as a working artist in that community. Thank you to those artists for opening up their studio spaces to students, thank you to New London-Spicer for hosting and organizing such a fun day, and congratulations to all the awesome artists who competed! Proud of you!
This project presented to ACGC 8th graders the unique opportunity to get a chance to collaborate with students from other schools that are located in very different locations in the great state of Minnesota. Folwell, a school in Minneapolis, visited us today! We contrasted our locations, populations, schedules and routines, but one thing remained certain, we can all compare our interest in the arts and our common goal for this project: documenting and creating an awareness of the spaces and places that we occupy day in and out. The rooms where we spend our time, the hallways we walk through, the places we collaborate, grow, and learn in - these are important parts of our everyday lives! It is important and worthwhile to capture them in an image and present them to the world. Every picture tells a story, let’s tell ours!
We are back! The first week of school was awesome. Visual Art students are preparing their art pieces for the upcoming back to school Art Show! This show is held during the homecoming game (GO FALCONS!) and helps to draw in crowds for the Ford Drive 4UR School event. Every Art student will have at least one piece displayed in the show.
I am excited for this new school year. I am continuously amazed at the sheer talent and energy my students bring into the Art Department. There are so many GREAT things happening here at ACGC! Stay tuned for more! On April 30, 2014 seven artists represented ACGC and competed in the MSHSL Visual Arts Competition at New London-Spicer High School. Congratulations to Samantha Tait, Allison Smith, and Aleona Lund on receiving "Superior Awards" for their entries and congratulations to Jordyn Bernstein, Karlie Fischer, Aaron Curry, and Bailey Klinghagen on recieving "Excellent Awards" for their pieces. They did a fantastic job! While their pieces were being judged we toured several artist studios around New London. It was a fun and artsy day! I am incredibly proud of the ACGC Senior class for getting together to make this memorial painting happen in honor of Zach! They did a phenomenal job in creating this amazing tribute to this amazing young man.
On Friday, March 7 I got to be on LIVE (!!!) television to accept the $2500.00 check from Toyota Drive for Education at the Xcel Energy Center. What an amazing opportunity it is for the ACGC Art Department to be awarded this funding!
Thank you Toyota and thank you to Prep 45! You're awesome! |
