Painting by Moonlight
These beautiful paintings require students to first understand how to properly mix and blend tints in order to complete them properly. Starting with a simple white painted circle and slowly adding a bit of blue to the white with each concentric circle around the moon, the page is slowly filled with a gorgeous nighttime sky that brings forth a quiet stillness as it envelopes the scenery below. The lighting falls in such a way that we can still very much see the world around us but without any clarifying details. Students needed to decided what kind of scene they wanted to include and needed to paint it only using the silhouetted forms of the objects to be included.
