Postage Stamp Design
Graphic Design is everywhere! The small little details that often get overlooked in everyday life are often times the hard work of an artist - as is the case with certain postage stamp designs. It adds to the thought that art is all around us every day and makes the world a beautiful place. For this assignment, students were to create a postage stamp design that could, in theory, actually be used on a postage stamp.
There is a lot to consider for these kinds of art works. The image has to be one that is simplified enough to fit on a little piece of paper and still be "readable" to the viewer as to what the picture is. This builds off of our previously explored concepts while doing the Logo Design lesson. A good logo is instantly recognizable no matter what size it is shrunk to practically. There are also certain bits of information that are required to be on the postage stamp. The artist must consider that there has to room left to clearly put the cost of the stamp or whatever wording is replacing it - and the USA wording as well. These tiny little artworks often get overlooked - the next time you are stamping an envelope, think about the artist who had to design whatever image is on it.
